Attended the University of Wolverhampton in 2018, and Graduated with a Bachelor of arts with Honors, in Performance industries. The course specialized in music applied through all panels of the creative industries. My choice of topic when studying was Classical Composition, of which I learned to apply for Film, TV, Documentaries, Radio and Commercial Marketing. From this, I have progressed as a Composer, earning credibility with awards and reference.

At first, I wasn’t sure where I was going as a musician, it felt like there was so much to think about and so many obstacles to consider. But I said one day, ‘I just want to write Music.' I learned about modern songwriting for various genres, and furthering my background in classical music.

I developed a firm knowledge through the years of classical and modern music and have found a true appreciation for all music writers in the world. I have stretched my instrumental skills to acoustics, electrics, bass, and vocals (when required), and the list continues to this day.

When I left the college, I leaned into composition, learning that each composer had a quality to define their work, for me it was about finding my quality. I tried many styles but realized that with my songwriting skills, I could combine my style of songs into classical music for making catchy and memorable music scores.

I am a member of PRS and various film organisations internationally with wide connections to filmmakers and producers. As a freelancer, I am available for commission, writing music fitting to your vision, creating an original sound to your story, making it stand out in cinemas or festivals.

Emily Frances Ippolito
Freelance

Emily Frances Ippolito is a composer for film, television, and concert music, with a love for creating music that helps stories come alive. Originally from Oregon, USA, and now based in Scotland, Emily works across film, orchestral music, live performance, and concert music, always looking for the sounds and musical ideas that help bring a story, character, or moment to life.

Emily has composed music for feature films and a wide range of short films, working across genres from drama and comedy to horror and animation. Her feature-film work includes The Difference Between Us, directed by Etienne Kubwabo, while her score for Sonya, directed by Pablo Florencio, won Best Original Score at the Gothamite Film Awards in 2022. Her growing body of screen work reflects her love of exploring different genres, characters, and musical worlds.

For Emily, one of the most exciting parts of composing is discovering what a story needs musically. Sometimes that means a sweeping orchestral theme; sometimes it is something quiet and unexpected; and sometimes it means making things just a little bit unsettling. She loves collaborating with filmmakers and other creatives to find that musical balance and create something that feels like it belongs to the world of the story.

Emily also writes concert music, where she enjoys exploring new ideas, sounds, and musical stories. Her Dementia Symphony grew from a 15-minute orchestral piece into Dementia Pictures, a 50-minute work featuring live dancers. She has also contributed music to The Moon Project, an album celebrating women composers from Scotland.

Emily is also a co-host of the Stargate Fandom Podcast, something that brings together several of her favourite things: music, storytelling, science fiction, and getting to talk to fascinating people. Through the podcast, she has enjoyed chatting about Stargate with fellow co-host Alyssa Aska, as well as connecting with and supporting the Stargate fandom and chatting with members of the Stargate cast and crew. The podcast has even led to creating and performing a Stargate-inspired concert of original music, bringing the fandom together for a very different kind of adventure.

Emily holds an MSc in Music Composition for Screen from the University of Edinburgh and a BMUS in Music Composition from Marylhurst University. Whether she is scoring a film, writing for orchestra, performing live, or talking about Stargate, Emily loves finding ways to tell stories through music — and hopefully leaving audiences with something they remember.
